Whenever a team has won four straight state championships, returns its head coach and many of its key players, as is the case with Union, it deserves to be ranked No. 1. Returning quarterback Hunter Atyia will throw to a pair of University of Tulsa commits - Chris Hall and Khalid Kornegay - behind an offensive line led by major college prospect Blake Mejia. A defense that stopped last-minute drives to preserve one-point wins in the last three playoff games last year is led up front by Oklahoma commit Dalton Rodriguez. The Redskins have a stellar linebacking corps that includes last year's title game hero, Coleby Evans, and the secondary is filled with playmakers. Special teams are strong again. There are no weaknesses. The only question mark is the lack of a proven running back, but Union has several candidates with potential. |

The most prolific Oklahoma eight-man team of the 21st century must replace a coaching legend and record-setting quarterback. The Indians have won seven state titles since 2002, finished runner-up once, lost in the quarterfinals and won eight district championships while posting a 135-9 record. Former coach Troy Bullard now tackles private business as new coach Seth Mills inherits five returning starters. Gone, too, is quarterback Aaron McCandless, who scored 89 career TDs, had 7,569 total yards and 8,453 all-purpose yards. Kadyn Schick, who rushed for 785 yards and nine TDs last season, replaces McCandless. Senior receiver Cory Floyd caught 26 passes for 591 yards and eight TDs. |
