A Jenks High School parking space (even during construction), BOK suites for all kinds of events, an orthodontic treatment, a night out for 20 and the use of a photo booth will be on the auction block when the Jenks Public Schools Foundation holds its 21st annual dinner and auction beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at the SpiritBank Event Center.

Joe Kelley will be the emcee, Banana Seat will provide live music, and auctioneer Jay Litchfield will lead the bidding.

Proceeds from the event will support the Jenks Public Schools Foundation which funds Teacher Grants for Classrooms; Junior Achievement Biztown for all fifth-graders; Vision of Excellence awards and student support as needed among other programs.

Many of the classroom grants awarded through the foundation have become an integral part of the Jenks curriculum bringing innovation not only to the classroom but also throughout the district. A few of the more specialized grants awarded in the 2008-09 school year include funding musical instruments and support materials for all kindergartners, fiction and nonfiction materials for at-risk readers, and a study on proteins for high school biology.

Since 1987, the JPSF has committed more than $1.4 million dollars to the education and support of all Jenks students, K-12. These funds have been generated through the generosity of corporations, foundations and individuals. The foundation is a 501(c)(3) and contributions are tax-deductible as allowed.

Event sponsors include IBC Bank, Bank of Oklahoma,
Williams Companies, MidFirst Bank, Manhattan Construction, BancFirst, Interstate Construction, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, Flintco Construction, Spirit Bank, GH2 Architects, Cox Communications, KSQ Architects, Tulsa Community Foundation, Rosenstein, Fist and Ringold, Stephen H. Sorry, I don't approve of auctioning off a parking space at the high school. Parking should be on a first-come basis. Why should some rich kid's parents be able to buy a reserved parking spot for their child's BMW? It seems very elitist and wrong.

Please show some compassion. Money is very tight due to the tremendous amount of legal bills and paying “administrators” to do nothing.

I should have added that I'm a Jenks school district taxpayer, and I still think it's wrong.

If the foundation is to help academics, then why is the picture of a SPORTS player? Come on. Could they not get an alumni who is now a teacher, scientist, or PeaceCorps alumni etc? Oh wait. Smarts don't sell except on the district-tab of their website. - Love an alumni and educator ashamed of Lehman and the board for not firing Trimble and outraged he's still being paid. A teacher with a PhD and 25+ years of service would still make $30K less than Trimble who is neither educating nor managing any program other than to grow his jowl and girth.

Get off your high horses and take a chill pill. Any event that benefits teachers and students DIRECTLY is worthwhile, which is exactly what the Jenks Public Schools Foundation does! This event isn't about Trimble, so stop your whining and go support the individuals who deserve it.
