The Komen For the Cure Tulsa Affiliate's board of directors recently announced that a new chic event will be held April 10 at the Cain's Ballroom.

Janet and Ken Levit are honorary chairmen of the event that will help raise additional funds for breast cancer research.

Rania Nesreddine is event chairwoman.

The "Pink Party" will be an evening of surprises and all things pink. Event organizers hope this will be the new "must attend" event for our city and that it will raise an additional $250,000 that will propel the Komen Tulsa Affiliate's fundraising efforts over the $1 million mark.

Other committee members include Shirley Reed, Miles Bacon, Ashley Smithee, Liz Hunt, Chad Mjos, Wes Cox, Marnie Fernandez, Thom Golden, Carrie Clasen, Jasmine Hamed, Maggie Hill, Melissa Hennrick, Carlos Flores, Tracia Forrest, Amy Ramsay, Keela Stough, Paula Settoon, Hillary Parkhurst, Erin Dailey, Jessica Judd, Ashli Sims, Corey Tisdale Warren, Cheri Ward, Mary Smith, Caroline Coughlin, Amber Garrett, Mitchell Garrett, Mishell Garver, Kelly Kenney, Lilac Khosrowyar, Joyce Madewell, Cassie Reese, Andrea Villareal, John Walton, Sher'ron Underwood, Dustin Thames, Karisha Arnett, Joanna Blackstock, Amanda Henshaw, Liberty Gorospe, Scott Levy, Mary Beth Nesser, Lee Anne Rader, Patti Velez, Megan Winkler, Stephen Wolff, J.B. Long, Katie Henke, Leah White, Laura Cooper, Caron Dillard, Kara Jones, Suzie Kern, Dawn Yoint, Sara Smith, Jared Jordan, Ellen Simmons and Macy Snyder.

"We are hoping to reach a new audience with this event," said LeAnne Taylor, board president of the Tulsa Affiliate. "The Pink Party will be a unique, chic party that will allow us to attract a different base of supporters. We are excited to bring this party to Tulsa and look forward to continuing our mission of bettering the lives of those facing breast cancer in our community."

Details such as entertainment, auction items and other surprises will be announced at a later date.

In 1982, a promise that Nancy Brinker had earlier made to her dying sister, Susan Komen to do everything in her power to end breast cancer, became the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement.

The Tulsa Affiliate of Komen for the Cure joins more than a million breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer. Through events like the Komen Tulsa Race for the Cure, the Tulsa Affiliate has invested more than $3.8 million in community breast health programs in Tulsa County. Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate stays in Tulsa County. The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research.
