Dream a little and remember the Lettermen singing "The Way You Look Tonight," "When I Fall in Love," "Goin' Out of My Head" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."

Oh, yeah.

Now we can revisit those songs in person because the Lettermen are coming to town to kick off their 50th Anniversary Tour with the Signature Symphony at Tulsa Community College on Nov. 14. In the past five decades the group has had 18 gold albums and 10,000 sold-out shows.

The event is a fundraiser for the Signature Symphony's Higher Scale education outreach program in Tulsa Public Schools and will include a reception before the concert featuring a silent auction, entertainment, food and drink, and a special appearance by the Lettermen. The concert is set for 8 p.m. in the VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education, located on TCC's Southeast Campus.

Jennifer Palmer, who with her husband, Tom, is honorary chairmen of the benefit notes, "What better way to raise funds for music education and awareness in our schools than with a Signature Symphony concert featuring the Lettermen. We hope our Lettermen fans become fans of Higher Scale as well."

Trisha Kerkstra is event chair and honorary advisers include Linda and John Bates; Linda and Ray Booker; Donna Bost; Bryan Close and Gayle Abney; Ruthie and Steve Duenner; Carol and Joe McGraw; Donna and Jim Ogez; Ruth and Al Sowards; and Mollie Williford.

Committee members are Mary Bain, Laura Chalus, Judy Edmonson, Barry Epperley, Joan Hayes, Larry Mocha, Leslie Paris,
June Patton, Delia Pierson, Alicia Ranne, Dean VanTrease and Lynda Wingo.

Mollie Williford is the platinum level sponsor. Gold level sponsors include Bank of Oklahoma, Steve and Ruthie Duenner, KBEZ, Jim and Bettye Knight, and Tom and Jennifer Palmer. Silver level sponsors are Aristar/Merf, the Barnett Family Foundation, Bryan Close, Dr. Joe and Mary Gunn, and Jim and Marilyn Hinkefent.

Items in the silent auction include original artwork; a multiple course, sit-down dinner for eight in the home of Bryan Close with a notable Tulsa chef, rare wines and musical entertainment; an autographed Lettermen sweater; a custom, hand-knotted, theater-length pearl necklace and earrings; dinner for six along with box seats to a TTCU Signature Pops performance and the opportunity to serve as guest conductor of Signature Symphony's annual 4th on the 3rd Concert.

Proceeds will help support Signature Symphony's outreach efforts in the Tulsa Public Schools through the Higher Scale Program, a hiring partnership between TPS, TCC and the Signature Symphony, to establish and direct stringed instrumental programs in schools where none exist.

Reception admission, which includes a center orchestra seat at the concert, is $125. Concert-only tickets range from $25-$55. They can be purchased online at tulsaworld.com/signaturesymphony or by calling 595-7777.

I thought the Lettermen were long gone. This could be a fun event.
