Controversial radio host Don Imus will return to Tulsa's morning airwaves Monday on KRVT 1270 AM.

"Imus last aired in Tulsa on KTBZ 1430 in the early-to-mid-90s," according to Stan Tacker, general manager of KRVT/KZLI. "The show did well here, but it was up against then morning king John Erling at KRMG."

Tacker hosts the KRVT morning show, which will include segments from "Imus in the Morning." The show will be simulcast in Tulsa on KRVT 1270 and KZLI 1570 from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.

"We think the Imus program will be a good fit for what we do," Tacker said. "While Imus often features political guests, the show is anything but political. There is no agenda behind the show. It's best described as a mix of interviews and what can only be described as cantankerous commentary. It's intelligent, informative and funny radio.

"There are also large local segments within the show that will allow KRVT to continue doing what we do best: Provide local interactive programming, latest news, weather, traffic and play listener requests."

Tacker also made a point to explain Imus' new approach to his show.

"The Imus program has changed significantly since his offensive remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball program, which resulted in his firing from CBS in 2007," Tacker said. "The hard-edged, ethnically-based humor is gone. Those changes were a precondition to KRVT even considering the program."

Love Imus...I will be listening to him, even though he has toned down his rhetoric which is what made him famous.
