A generous helping of DeGeneres

"Ellen's Bigger Longer & Wilder Show" airs at 8 p.m. Saturday on TBS.

Popular talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres is putting on "Ellen's Bigger Longer & Wider Show," her third variety special for TBS, and, if you like comedy, be there or be square.

The show, taped June 17 at the "TBS Presents a Very Funny Festival: Just for Laughs" in Chicago, will feature special guests, performances and loads of laughs.

Joining her will be:

Kanye West , Grammy-winning performer, songwriter and producer; David Blaine , illusionist; Nick Cannon , film star, comedian, musician, writer and executive producer of his own TV shows.

Ellen will also head to Wrigley Field to lead the fans in singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch of a Cubs-White Sox game.

The stand-up comedian, a native of Metairie, La., made her first appearance on "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson" in 1986, starred in her own sitcom "Ellen" from 1994-1998 and has hosted the Academy Awards and the Primetime Emmy Awards. She launched the Daytime Emmy-winning "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in 2003 And, she's also done several network sitcoms and HBO comedy specials and authored books. Whew!

Also taped at the festival were "Let Freedom Hum — An Evening of Comedy Hosted by Martin Short" (9 p.m. Friday) and "Comedy You Can Believe In With David Alan Grier" (9 p.m. Sunday).

Her special airs at 8 p.m. Saturday on TBS, cable 47.

BET Awards ’09

Oscar winner Jamie Foxx will be host for the live broadcast of the “BET Awards ’09” Sunday. (Check him out July 9 at the BOK Center.)

Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Maxwell, Young Jeezy, Ne-Yo, Soulia Boy, the Dream and Mary Mary will be among those performing at the event which celebrates achievements of the most influential African Americans in music, acting, sports and entertainment.

Watch for Queen Latifah, Taraji Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Idris Elba, Paula Patton and Solange Knowles as presenters.

THURSDAY

“High School Musical 3: Senior Year”

8 p.m., Starz, cable 390

High School Musical, who says we have to let it go? Well, the stars do. This was the last “HSM” film, according to the stars. In this high-energy musical, seniors Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) face the fact they are heading off to different colleges.

“The Mentalist”

9 p.m., CBS, channel 6

In case you missed it, the network is rerunning the first season finale of this hit series. Jane’s partner is afraid serial killer Red John is drawing Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) into a trap when the CBI team investigates the murder of a young girl and the abduction of her twin sister.

FRIDAY

“Princess Protection Program”

7 p.m., Disney, cable 32

Disney stars Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez tell the story of the princess (Lovato) from a tropical kingdom who moves to small-town America and poses as a visiting cousin from Iowa. There, she has work in the family’s bait shop. Euwww!

“Virtuality”

7-9 p.m., Fox, channel 23, cable 5

This pilot film follows Earth’s first starship and its crew of 12 on the edge of beginning a 10-year journey crucial to the survival of life on Earth. Sort of like “Dollhouse,” the crew has virtual reality modules that allow them to assume different identities. But, turns out, there’s a glitch.

SATURDAY

“Doctor Who: The Next Doctor”

8 p.m., BBCA, cable 176

Yes, it’s Christmas in June and there are two, count ’em, two Doctors (David Tennant and David Morrissey). When the Doctor is called to investigate mysterious deaths in London, he runs into another Doctor. Together, they team up to stop the rise of the CyberKing.

VH1 Storytellers: ZZ Top

9 p.m., cable 65

The legendary ZZ Top celebrated its 40th anniversary on this series. The Texas trio (they play the BOK July 30, with Aerosmith) answers questions from the audience, renews one couple’s wedding vows and tells stories behind its hits. Rock on!

SUNDAY

“Impact”

8 p.m., ABC, channel 8

Don’t look now, we’ve survived a meteor storm but it looks like the moon is going to crash into us. This two-part miniseries wraps up Sunday with soldiers, scientists and astronauts trying to figure out how to save Earth. I’m crossing my fingers.

“HGTV Showdown”

9 p.m., HGTV, cable 31

The third season of this competition series kicks off with celebrity guests like Drew Lachey, Kristi Yamaguchi and Guy Fieri and a whole slew of HGTV designers design and execute the winning room makeover for a lucky homeowner. In the end, the homeowners decide which team produced the champion design.

MONDAY

“The Secret Life of the American Teenager”

7 p.m., ABC Family, cable 37

This season, fans can look forward to Anne dealing with the news of her own pregnancy, Amy slowly adjusting to motherhood and Grace and Jack taking their relationship to the next level.

“Hooked”

9 p.m., National Geographic, cable 163

Get ready for a new season of extreme encounters in megafishing and a look at the research being done to protect these monster fish from environmental challenges including over-fishing by humans.

TUESDAY

“America’s Got Talent”

7-9 p.m., NBC, channel 2, cable 9

Maybe they do and maybe they don’t. The auditions for this talent competition continue with an array of “talent,” all hoping to win the $1 million grand prize.

“Saving Grace”

9 p.m., TNT, cable 29

Grace (Holly Hunter) finds herself torn between two angels (and one is Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham). It seems Matthew (Abraham) is having troubling meeting his soul-saving quota and decides to horn in on Earl’s territory.

WEDNESDAY

“Dance Your Ass Off”

9 p.m., Oxygen, cable 166

The goal in this new reality competition is to go from eating machine to dancing machine. Actress Marissa Jaret Winokur (“Hairspray”) will be your host for the next 10 weeks. The grand prize is $100,000 and a new, healthy, way of life.

“A Hot Dog Program”

10 p.m., PBS, channel 11

Celebrate the coming holiday with the all-American food — the hot dog. This documentary travels across the country visiting some of the coolest hot dog places, looks a how they are made and surveys the popular toppings.
