It feels like a summer movie: Filmmaker Roland Emmerich ("Independence Day," "Godzilla," "The Day After Tomorrow") makes another movie full of apocalyptic imagery. This one has something to do with events foretold in a Mayan calendar, and you can expect more famous landmarks to come tumbling down.

PIRATE RADIO

Richard Curtis directs his first original script since "Love Actually" in this comedy about mid-1960s rock music in Great Britain being illegally broadcast on pirate radio stations — like the one here on a boat manned by a rogue deejay (Philip Seymour Hoffman). The cast also includes Bill Nighy, Nick Frost, Rhys Ifans, Tom Sturridge, Gemma Arterton, Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh.
