Opening on Wednesday:

Filmmaker Wes Anderson ("The Royal Tenenbaums," "Rushmore") might not seem the choice to direct a stop-motion animated film, but then this is based on a Roald Dahl book ("Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Matilda"). George Clooney and Meryl Streep provide voices.

OLD DOGS

It's wild, wacky stuff as John Travolta and Robin Williams play a pair of buddies and business associates who wind up having to care for 7-year-old twins. Tagline: Sit. Stay. Play dad. A big cast includes Kelly Preston, Seth Green, Matt Dillon, Bernie Mac (his last film) and Ann-Margret.

THE ROAD

Cormac McCarthy's prize-winning, post-apocalyptic novel comes to theaters, with Viggo Mortensen as the man, Guy Pearce as the veteran and Robert Duvall as the old man. Directed by John Hillcoat (the western "The Proposition").

NINJA ASSASSIN

The title pretty much says it all on this one. An R-rated bloodbath, according to its Motion Picture Association of America rating.

Opening on Friday:

PARIS

A professional dancer on a waiting list for a heart transplant wonders about his life and those around him, including his sister and her three children who move into his Paris apartment to care for him. Starring Juliette Binoche and Romain Duris ("Moliere"), the film plays exclusively at Circle Cinema.
