FITNESS GUINEA PIG SAYS
Perhaps you read the inspirational story of Kathy Clingman, who went from overweight cardiac patient to personal trainer at age 56 after changing her lifestyle. No?
Know your World, people! C'mon. Anyway, Kathy really wanted FGP to work out with her and her trainer, Josh Jones, at Mobius Fitness Solutions, to try their version of functional strength training. But FGP was a little busy training for this thing called the Tulsa Run.
Surely you read about that.
So Kathy and Josh took a rain check, but promised they would call after the race, and it would be fun. They're not liars.
FGP was pleasantly surprised that it was not the evil He-Man warrior workout she was expecting.
Josh can do that, but he tailors his workouts to each client, and he knew too many push-ups and box jumps would just make FGP whiney.
So instead, they beat stuff with a baseball bat, swung from rings, and pulled kettlebells tied to ropes. Functional strength can be a physical and cerebral challenge all at once, which keeps it interesting and highly effective. They won't waste your time, and you may end up having as much fun as FGP did. Now she and Kathy are planning on training for a bikini competition together.
Is there a workout or exercise you want the Fitness Guinea Pig to try first? Send suggestions to
