The ruby slippers have never shined so brightly, and the yellow-brick road has never been so vibrantly yellow as in "The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition" released last week.

With 16 hours of extras (four hours of which weren't released in previous collections), the set is available for a limited time with a price of $69.92 for DVD and $84.99 for this first-time Blu-ray release. Both can likely be found for less than these official suggested retail prices.

The film has been re-mastered, yielding twice the resolution previously available on DVD for the 1939 film staple.

Among the new features:

"The Dreamer of Oz": The home-video debut for the hit NBC TV-movie from 1990 with John Ritter in the role of L. Frank Baum, the author of "Oz," telling his life story and featuring Annette O'Toole as Baum's wife and Oklahoma's Rue McClanahan as his witch-like mother-in-law.

"The Magic Cloak of Oz" and "The Patchwork Girl of Oz": Two feature-length silent films from 1914, produced by Baum.

A new featurette follows the story of seven of the original Munchkins from the film, all the way up to their receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.

"The Wizard of Oz Sing-a-long Track": The name says it all on this one.

I got nervous when I put in the blu-ray version. The movie begins in B/W. Once Dorothy lands in Munchkin Land is when the film is in color. Splendid film.
