Health officials said Harrington exposed roughly 5,000 patients with infectious diseases due to rusty instruments and unsanitary practices. His office was shut down in March.
One more former patient of Tulsa oral surgeon W. Scott Harrington has tested positive for hepatitis C, bringing the total number to of positive tests to 74 with five testing positive for hepatitis B and three for HIV, according to the Tulsa City-County Health Department.
Harrington may have exposed at least 7,000 patients to the diseases by using rusted, unsanitary equipment and a lack of infection control procedures. He voluntarily stopped practicing March 20.
About 4,000 former patients have been tested at local health departments. Free testing will end June 28.
Health officials have said that because of the number of people who are infected but don't know it, the number of positive test results from the former patients is in line with what would be expected from a random sampling of the population.
