Bald eagle flight goes awry during ORU service

Mikey Weinstein, a controversial figure who has been called a champion for religious freedom by some and a notorious anti-Christian zealot by others, will speak Sept. 21 at a Tulsa Interfaith Alliance awards reception.
Oral Roberts University students gasped and shrieked Wednesday morning when a bald eagle that was part of a chapel service failed to fly to its trainer, crashed into a window at Christ Chapel on campus and collapsed to the floor.
"It was a bit shocking to see, but we're thankful the eagle is OK," ORU spokeswoman Carissa Bratschun said.
She said the eagle was supposed to fly straight to the trainer, who was on stage.
"It had practiced five or six times," she said. "When the time came, we're not sure what happened. It flew around the room and then hit a window."
A trainer then coaxed the bird onto his arm and went on stage.
The bald eagle and a golden eagle - ORU's mascot - were part of a spirit day chapel service held to launch the school year.
