BARTLESVILLE — A 23-year-old Bartlesville man is facing multiple charges in Washington County District Court after allegedly molesting a 3-year-old then driving drunk through the streets with three children eluding police.
District Judge Curtis DeLapp set bond at $150,000 during a Tuesday arraignment for Casey Adam Burns, who is charged with lewd molestation, child endangerment, child neglect, eluding police, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license. Burns returns to court June 21.
Burns was found Friday in the bathroom with a distressed toddler at a Bartlesville apartment by a friend with whom he had been drinking beer, a police affidavit stated. The witness said Burns had made repeated trips to the bathroom to throw up throughout the day.
During one of Burns’ trips to the bathroom, the witness had turned down music that was playing in the apartment and heard a 3-year-old girl crying and saying “momma” and heard Burns saying “Shh,” the affidavit stated. The witness found Burns sitting on the edge of the bathtub with his pants around his ankles and the toddler’s head in his lap, the affidavit stated.
When the witness realized what he was seeing, he ordered Burns to leave his house. Burns took the 3-year-old, along with a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old in a car with him and drove away while the witness called police, the affidavit stated.
Burns drove past police while they were taking down information on the incident at the apartment with the children in his vehicle, the affidavit stated.
Police pursued Burns with lights and sirens activated, but he did not pull over, the affidavit stated. Police continued to pursue Burns who drove a short distance then pulled into a Dollar General store and went inside leaving the children in the car, the affidavit stated.
Officers arrested Burns at the store while a relative stayed with the children, the affidavit stated. The toddler told the relative Burns tried to make her touch his private parts, the affidavit stated.
Burns has previous felony convictions in Osage County on a 2011 charge of making a telephone bomb threat and 2010 charges of grand larceny and second degree burglary. He received a 10-year suspended prison sentence. A Washington County jury in 2011 acquitted Burns on a charge of sexual battery.
