Business 2013 Look Ahead: Grocery stores, eateries opening across Tulsa area

More food options will dominate the Tulsa retail industry in early 2013 as new grocery stores and eateries open across the area and expand the area's culinary competition.
Grocery stores will continue the furious growth of 2012 with more new offerings in the Tulsa area, first with specialty market Sprouts opening near 101st Street and Memorial Drive in Bixby in the spring.
Sprouts is a new concept to the area based out of Phoenix that specializes in fresh and natural foods with only a limited selection of non-perishable goods. A spokesman for the company likened its stores to "an indoor farmers market."
Whole Foods is building its second Tulsa-area store at 91st Street and Yale Avenue, bringing the high-end organic and natural foods store to south Tulsa.
Meanwhile in downtown Tulsa, Blake Ewing's Archer Market concept is expected to bring the first grocery store to downtown in more than a decade to the Brady District. Although that project is far behind schedule, the restaurateur and Tulsa City Councilor said he'll now turn his attention to that project after opening his coffee house, Phoenix Cafe, at 1302 E. Sixth St.
Downtown is counting on an infusion of new restaurants, mostly around the Brady District with Mediterranean restaurant Laffa opening this year and a part of a handful of new eateries on the ground-floor level of the new Courtyard by Marriott hotel, 415 S. Boston Ave.
Elliot Nelson's McNellie's Pub is scheduled to expand to the corner of 71st Street and Yale Avenue this year, just a few blocks from a planned Hideaway Pizza in the Kings- Point Village shopping center.
Sushi restaurant Zanmai will open with a grand view of downtown near Cherry Street and Peoria Avenue.
