BARTLESVILLE - The school board on Thursday named an interim superintendent for Bartlesville Public Schools while the superintendent is away on medical leave.

Interim Superintendent Chuck McCauley previously was the district's executive director of human resources.

McCauley will serve for as long as needed - possibly through the end of the school year - taking on the duties of Gary Quinn, who has been on medical leave since late July.

Quinn suffered serious complications after a planned surgery, and it is expected that he will not be able to return to work for many weeks.

"We all wish Dr. Quinn well and we are thinking about him and his family in this time," board President Doug Divelbiss said. "But meanwhile, we have 6,000 kids to take care of in the district."

Divelbiss said Quinn is on paid medical leave and will continue to receive his salary as long as he has sick leave days available.

District administrators are preparing for a $36.7 million bond proposal that will go before voters Sept. 10.
