13 killed in Washington shooting rampage

A defense contractor employee went on a shooting rampage Monday inside a building at the heavily secured Washington Navy Yard, spraying bullets in the hallways and firing from a balcony onto office workers in an atrium below, authorities and witnesses said. Thirteen people were killed, including the gunman.

Country superstar Carrie Underwood will perform on the "2012 Billboard Awards" on May 20.
The native Oklahoman joins Justin Bieber, The Wanted and LMFAO as the first artists announced Thursday as performers for the show. It will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas from 7-10 p.m. on ABC, channel 8.
Underwood, a native of Checotah, has sold more than 14 million albums, has 14 No. 1 singles (and co-wrote six of those), five Grammy Awards and numerous other awards - all accomplished with three albums in seven years.
Her latest project, “Blown Away,” will be available May 1.
Additional acts and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
