A Tulsa woman was charged with child neglect Friday after police reportedly found her three small children alone in an unlocked, overheated apartment earlier this week.

Yomara Alvarado, 24, was arrested Tuesday after officers found the children — a 5-year-old, a 3-year-old and a 2-year-old — in an apartment in the 1000 block of East 57th Place.

Alvarado’s arrest report states that the temperature in the apartment was 90 degrees, that no food was available and that the children had poured “20 or more” bottles of water on themselves to stay cool.

The children were placed in Department of Human Services custody, and Alvarado, remained in the Tulsa Jail on Friday evening.
