A Claremore woman was arraigned Thursday in Tulsa federal court in connection with a bank fraud charge in which she is accused of forging more than 200 checks drawn on her former employer's bank account.

Lisa R. Tolbert, 49, is charged with engaging in the fraud from Jan. 1, 2010 until last Oct. 24 while she worked as a bookkeeper and administrative assistant at Kelsey Company, Inc. in Tulsa.

According to the charge filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Tulsa, Tolbert had access to the company's financial books and records as part of her job.

Prosecutors allege that the purpose of the scheme was for Tolbert to obtain the company's funds by forging checks drawn on its bank account and then to use the proceeds for her own purposes without the organization's consent.

The charge alleges that Tolbert was able to obtain at least $462,421.39 through forgery.

On Thursday, Tolbert waived her right to have the case presented to a federal grand jury. She will await further developments in the case while on bond.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Gallant estimated that Tolbert would face about three years in prison if she pleads guilty to the charge.

Tolbert, who no longer works for the company, faces the possible forfeiture of property in Claremore and Owasso as part of the case.
