Going for the ring: Springfield general manager Matt Gifford lent his 2012 Texas League championship ring to Drillers manager Kevin Riggs, who used it in a speech to his team before Monday's regular-season finale.
"I didn't have a whole lot of words to say because it kind of speaks for itself," Riggs said. "It's a reminder of what's your playing for and if it gets one or two guys more excited, good for them and good for us.
"The trophy is something that the franchise can have and keep at the stadium," he added, "but the kids are playing for that ring."
