Rig count 18 percent lower than year ago
The number of drilling rigs actively exploring for oil or natural gas in Oklahoma fell by six this week to 164, Baker Hughes Inc. reported Friday.
The tally is down 18 percent from a year ago, when it was 37 units higher at 201.
Nationwide, the net number of active drilling rigs rose by one to 1,768 this week, according to Houston-based Baker Hughes. A year ago, the U.S. rig count was 1,864.
Of the rigs operating this week across the country, 1,361 were exploring for oil, 401 for gas and six were listed as miscellaneous.
Friday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, benchmark oil for October delivery fell 39 cents to close at $108.21 a barrel. For the week, oil dropped 1.7 percent after closing Sept. 6 at a two-year high of $110.53.
Blackstone's Hilton files for $1.25 billion IPO
Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc., the hotel operator owned by Blackstone Group LP, filed Friday to raise $1.25 billion in an initial public offering as shares of lodging companies trade at the highest levels in nearly six years.
McLean, Va.-based Hilton didn't say how many shares it will offer or at what price.
Hilton, the world's largest hotel chain plans, to use proceeds from the offering to pay down debt, according to a regulatory filing.
New York-based Blackstone would own a majority of the voting power in Hilton following the IPO.
Brittany Sawyer, executive director for the Metro Tulsa Hotel and Lodging Association, said 15 Hilton facilities are located in the Tulsa area.
