Former law officer faces new charges

A hearing for a man who is charged as an accessory to first-degree murder after the fact in connection with the 1992 disappearance and deaths of three people was postponed Monday.

SAPULPA — A former law enforcement officer on probation for obtaining prescription drugs by fraud has a fresh set of charges against him in Creek County.
Jeremy Wayne Murrell, 37, has been charged with concealing stolen property and carrying a weapon while on probation.
He was also brought up on traffic complaints including no driver’s license or insurance and an altered license plate.
Murrell is serving a three-year deferred sentence stemming from an investigation by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs and the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office in which Murrell was accused of obtaining 3,076 pills from physicians and pharmacies between August 2009 and July 2010.
Investigators interviewed 10 doctors and obtained records from 10 pharmacies in connection with the probe which showed that Murrell had obtained opiates such as methadone.
All but one of 12 drug counts were dismissed.
Murrell was required to undergo a drug and alcohol assessment, meet with a pain management doctor and was ordered not to carry a firearm.
Murrell began his career with the Creek County Sheriff’s Office where he worked from about 1999 to 2002.
He later served as police chief in Buffalo, Okla., in the northwest part of the state, from September 2008 to July 2009 where he was a person of interest in a prescription fraud investigation.
He was arrested on drug charges in August 2010 when he was the police chief in Chelsea. Officials there have said they weren’t aware of the drug allegations when they hired him.
In 2002, he won weight-lifting titles at the World Association of Benchpressers and Dead Lifters “World Cup” championship in Irving, Texas, according to a Tulsa World newspaper report.
In February 2007 in Tulsa County, Murrell was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol, court records show.
