Volleyball Athlete of the Week: Paige Panter

The junior setter averaged 37 assists, 9 digs, 3.5 serving aces and 2.5 kills per match to lead the Rams to two wins last week.

Volleyball Athlete of the Week: Josie Gandall

Senior led her team to the Comet Tournament of Champions title this past weekend. The outside hitter averaged 13.2 kills and 12.6 digs per match and was named All-Tournament.

Tahlequah Sequoyah remains the only undefeated ranked team in the state in all three classifications. The 18-0 Indians are ranked No. 4 in Class 4A and received six first-place votes in this week's rankings. The team has dropped just two sets all season.

The Indians gave Oklahoma Christian School its first loss of the season en route to winning the Okay Tournament this past weekend. Next up? Seven larger schools await in this weekend's Coweta Tournament.

Senior Audrey Ballou leads a cast of seven seniors for the Indians. The outside hitter averages 12 kills and four serving aces a match and was named the most valuable player of the Okay Tournament. Senior middle blocker Baylee Herrin joined Ballou on the all-tournament team.

Lucky number four: Just six years after starting its volleyball program, the Regent Preparatory School is in the hunt for its fourth consecutive Oklahoma Christian School state championship this fall.

Despite being a high school of only 90 students, the Rams' schedule includes Class 6A schools Bartlesville, Owasso, Sapulpa with Regent Prep notching wins against a pair of Class 5A ranked teams - Lincoln Christian and Victory Christian.

The team does have one 6-foot player, but the rest are all 5-foot-8 or smaller. Because of its size situation, Regent Prep focuses its strategy on an area of the game where height isn't mandatory - serving.

Athletic director and volleyball coach Michael Christie reports that the school recently applied for membership in the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association in hopes of becoming a member for the 2014-15 school year.

Big week: Lincoln Christian moved up to No. 2 in Class 5A after collecting impressive wins last week.

The Bulldogs beat No. 7 Victory Christian in straight sets before taking down the No. 6 and No. 9 ranked teams in Class 6A in Jenks and Stillwater at the Comet Tournament of Champions. Lincoln Christian also took seventh-ranked Owasso to five sets before losing 16-14 in that deciding fifth set. Junior Serena Mar didn't leave the court the entire weekend for the Bulldogs, totaling 82 kills, 13 blocks, and 45 digs last in 24 games.

Back in action: Bishop Kelley went through yet another lineup adjustment last week after sophomore standout Phoebe Lowe returned from injury. The Comets posted four straight-set sweeps and outlasted Owasso in a five-set thriller to win their own Comet Tournament of Champions for the first time in three years.
