Just in time for the holidays, Oklahoma breweries have released seasonal beers, two new wines have Oklahoma ties and Barry Switzer is coming to town to promote his Switzer Family Vineyards.
Tulsa's Marshall Brewing Co. recently released its Big Jamoke Porter, named for the B-25 bomber that brewmaster Eric Marshall's grandfather flew in World War II.
The beer features a blend of five malts, providing a deep mahogany color and aroma of toffee and roasted coffee. The beer is full-bodied with hints of bittersweet chocolate and toffee, and it finishes smooth and dry from the addition of earthy hops.
This is the fourth year Marshall has released this winter seasonal.
"Craft beer fans ask us to make Big Jamoke available year-round," said Wes Alexander, director of sales, said in a news release. "We have no plans to make Big Jamoke year-round at present, but as we continue to grow our business, we will consider input from our fans."
Mustang Brewing Co. of Oklahoma City has converted its former Winter Lager into a year-round beer, recently released as Route 66 American Lager.
Route 66 is a traditional amber lager brewed with four types of barley and two types of hops, giving it a crisp, malty finish.
Tulsa's Chris Large of
ecoVINO has partnered with a French company to produce a new certified organic wine called Helibiker Red. It's a red blend and is available in the 1.5 liter Astrapouch or 750 ml Eco-Glass bottle.
Celebrated winemaker Charles Smith of
K Vintner and
Charles Smith labels has produced a limited-edition wine called Broncho, named after the Tulsa/Norman-based band. Smith fell in love with the band on a previous visit to Tulsa. It retails for about $75.
Switzer, former University of Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys football coach, will make two appearances Wednesday.
He will be at Parkhill's Warehouse Liquors & Wine, 5111 S. Lewis Ave., from 2 to 4 p.m. and at Parkhill's South Liquors & Wine, 10018 S. Memorial Drive, from 5 to 7 p.m. to sign bottles of Switzer Family cabernet sauvignon and other fan memorabilia. KRAV radio will broadcast live from both locations.
