It's apple season again, one of the few times of the year I'm sorry I live in the city, without a car. If only I lived near an orchard, I'd pick my own apples and be happy.

Tulsa will host its first craft beer week in April, organizers have announced.

Although all of the events have not been finalized, Tulsa Craft Beer Week 2013 will be April 15-20, said Josh Royal, one of the owners of R Bar in Brookside.

Royal organized the event with Kyle Johnson of Quality Beverage Co., Freddie Lamport of BierGarten Wine and Spirits in Jenks, and Tony Collins of McNellie's.

Royal said they were inspired by similar events featuring crafts beers in other cities, including Oklahoma City and New Orleans.

"In New Orleans, you could go from place to place for tastings or you could go somewhere for a huge outdoor event with kegs," Royal said.

The goal in creating an event in Tulsa is to showcase some of the craft beers available in the area. Some of the breweries that are participating include Marshall Brewing Company, Prairie Artisan Ales and Coop Ale Works, to name a few.

"The local brewers have a blast. They get to brew some specialty beers that they probably would not otherwise make and give it to the public to see how they react to it," Royal said.

So far, the event will include tastings and some beer dinners, he said. Many locations will have specials going on throughout Craft Beer Week.

The brewers and organizers will also have commemorative glassware and T-shirts for sale.

More information will be announced later about specific events.
