Letters to the Editor
In his letter, ("No One Listened," Aug. 31) Robert Leppelmeir made some inaccurate claims, inaccurate conclusions and key omissions. His intent was to exonerate George W. Bush for his war against Iraq.
Re: Baby Veronica story: Isn't it just a little odd that the same attorneys in Oklahoma City and South Carolina and the adoption agency are the same parties in the Desaray case in Oklahoma City and are now representing the Capobiancos.
If the article on the city's "tall grass" is accurate, the city is hiding behind smoke. It's my understanding that Tulsa is behind the average annual rainfall, which would include 2011 and 2012.
What we see all over the area at neglected heights is a weed known as Johnson grass. This is a very undesirable weed that grows four or five times as fast as Bermuda or other indigenous grasses. It will be this kind of problem regardless of the rainfall amount, unless we instigate some type of control program.
Johnson grass is classified as a "noxious weed" in neighboring states and there are control programs in place. There are also property taxes, approved by the public, to cover such programs.
Those in charge ought to investigate what they are dealing with and be a little more honest with the general public. When it is let go to seed on one lot, it will very quickly seed the adjacent property and then everyone has the same problem.
