In his letter, ("No One Listened," Aug. 31) Robert Leppelmeir made some inaccurate claims, inaccurate conclusions and key omissions. His intent was to exonerate George W. Bush for his war against Iraq.
Re: Baby Veronica story: Isn't it just a little odd that the same attorneys in Oklahoma City and South Carolina and the adoption agency are the same parties in the Desaray case in Oklahoma City and are now representing the Capobiancos.
In Tulsa we have had recent discussions about the renaming of Brady Street.
I suggest a new renaming discussion: Let's consider renaming the state of Florida "Inhofe", or alternately, if the Thwaites Glacier in Antarctica breaks free, Florida could be renamed "The Lost Continent of Inhofe."
Atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are the highest in three million years. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that traps heat.
The increased carbon dioxide levels coincide with the industrial age, which dawned about 150 years ago, and is caused by our (the whole world) burning ever more carbon fuels.
Burning carbon fuels equals carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Elevated carbon dioxide in the atmosphere equals trapped heat and global warming.
The seas are becoming measurably warmer; sea levels are rising at 1/8-inch per year (and that rate is accelerating), and various ice melts on land are turning more than 200 billion metric tons of land-based ice per year into sea water.
Yet, our senator refuses to participate in any planning or legislation designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions because he won't look at scientific data and believes global warming is hokum.
This pending catastrophe is not going to happen in our lifetimes. It could take 200 years.
But we have the Washington Monument dedicated to a man who died 214 years ago, so there is nothing wrong with going ahead with the renaming now.
