In his letter, ("No One Listened," Aug. 31) Robert Leppelmeir made some inaccurate claims, inaccurate conclusions and key omissions. His intent was to exonerate George W. Bush for his war against Iraq.
Re: Baby Veronica story: Isn't it just a little odd that the same attorneys in Oklahoma City and South Carolina and the adoption agency are the same parties in the Desaray case in Oklahoma City and are now representing the Capobiancos.
As an 84-year-old, 44-year survivor of metastatic breast cancer, I looked forward to the Cancer Survivor supplement, which was advertised in the past weeks. What a disappointment - most of the cases were barely out of treatment and have years to go to be called cancer survivors.
Perhaps the title led me to believe there would be stories of miraculous and unexplained success stories. Not long ago Forbes magazine had just such an issue. Basically, the Tulsa World supplement was an opportunity for the various competing cancer treatment facilities to tout their oncology services. There was good information about signs and symptoms of various forms of cancer, common terms and the importance of early detection toward a successful outcome.
Forty-four years ago I had never heard of breast cancer as a 40-year-old. Radical mastectomy was the treatment of the time. After three years, my breast cancer metastasized to my left lung and required partial removal. I was then told that immediate removal of my ovaries (to minimize estrogen) might give me two years to live.
I have far outlived my doctors' prognosis and am a true metastatic cancer survivor as is my sister. My daughter therefore assumed she would survive her breast cancer. She did not. My sister and I both attribute our cure to removal of the ovaries and to our good immune systems. I had only surgery - no chemo or radiation. How many other such stories are out there?
