A Tulsa County jury imposed a no-parole life prison term Monday night upon convicting a man of murdering his infant daughter more than six years ago.
Jurors found Gregory Antwon O’Neal, 28, of Tulsa guilty of child-abuse murder in the May 18, 2007, death of 2-month-old Tianna O’Neal.
In addition to the life without parole sentence, O’Neal was fined $10,000.
O’Neal, who had been free on bond, was jailed after the verdict, which concluded a trial in District Judge James Caputo’s court.
O’Neal did not testify on his own behalf but has denied injuring the child.
The baby’s mother, Tamara Michelle Matthews, has also been charged with murder. She is free on bond and awaits a trial in 2014.
Prosecutors Sarah McAmis and Ben Fu have maintained that the parents are responsible for the baby’s multiple injuries, which included a skull fracture, subdural hemorrhages and shaking injuries.
O’Neal and Matthews were arrested in May 2007 but were released from jail without being charged. They were both charged in 2011.
