Tahlequah's boys cross country team dominated the field at the Collinsville meet last Thursday, with junior Zech Van Fleet winning the 5000-meter event and three other teammates in the top eight.
With just a few weeks left in the regular season, Edison (19-10) is peaking at just the right time.
Ten western and Oklahoma City-area high schools have formed a new athletic conference.
Choctaw, Del City, Enid, Lawton, Lawton Eisenhower, Midwest City, OKC Bishop McGuinness,
Putnam City, Putnam North and Putnam West are new members in the Oklahoma Big
10 Conference, which will begin play in the 2014-15 season.
Michael Moore, director of athletics for the Lawton Public Schools, and Dr. Dick
Balenseifen, athletic director for the Putnam City Public Schools, are
co-chairs of the new conference.
Scheduled are being developed and should be complete by March 2014, Balenseifen said.
“The championship banners hanging at each school tell you that conference members
have winning traditions,” Balenseifen said. “Their student-athletes work hard
and their parents and communities support them. We’re excited to join together
in a new conference and look forward to future success by member schools.”
