NORMAN – The Oklahoma basketball teams escaped the lens of the Longhorn Network the past two years. That will not be the case in 2013-14, however.

The University of Texas announced Wednesday a 25-game Longhorn Network package for the upcoming men's and women's basketball season. Texas home games against both the OU men and women will be on the university's ESPN-backed network.

The Sooner men's Big 12 Conference opener at Texas Jan. 4, now scheduled for 7 p.m., will air on the LHN. So will the OU women's game in Austin Jan. 8, which is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Cox Communications is an Oklahoma distributor of the LHN, per the network's website. Cox lists the LHN on channel 274, part of the cable provider's Sports and Information Pak available for a monthly rate of $8.50.

Other LHN carriers include Time Warner Cable, AT&T U-verse and Verizon FiOS. Those that haven't picked up the network include DirecTV, Dish Network and Comcast.

It isn't the first time a Sooners team has been scheduled to appear on the LHN. It happened to OU's eventual national championship softball team just last April.

Big 12 men's basketball teams that have played on the LHN include Oklahoma State (2012), Iowa State ('12), Kansas State ('13), TCU ('13) and Texas Tech (both '12 and '13). This year, OU, West Virginia, TCU and Tech are scheduled for the LHN, as the network's package increases from three to four conference games.

The Big 12 allows universities to distribute football or basketball games not selected for broadcast by ESPN first, or the Big 12 Network second. These third-tier properties fall to the host schools to distribute via their own network partnership.
