On the Issues: What mistakes did you make in your first term and what would you do in your second term to rectify them, if needed?

"When I became mayor the relationship between the Mayor's Office and the City Council wasn't great. I understand all nine councilors were passionate about Tulsa and about representing their districts, but sometimes I think we let our passions get in the way of what was best for Tulsa. However, I understand it is essential to have a strong relationship between the mayor and the City Council and we've worked to improve that relationship. I am very proud of our current city councilors. Although I don't always agree with them, we can generally work together to find the best solution for Tulsa."

During my first term, I successfully tackled numerous unforeseen challenges like the ice storm, BOK Center budgetary issues, the Drillers moving to Jenks and the impact of the recession. These were necessary but required energy and focus. While we did address basic infrastructure needs with Fix Our Streets, I would spend even more energy in a second term on getting back to basics with exceptional delivery of services citizens count on such as trash, coordination of streets construction processes, tackling neighborhood blight, small business development and public safety. A greater focus on citizen trust with transparent, accountable financial processes would be vital.
