Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin speaks during the State of the State speech at the SpiritBank Event Center. CORY YOUNG / Tulsa World file
Public speech
Congratulations to Councilors Ewing, Patrick and Gilbert for their admonitions to City Attorney O'Meilia - and apologies to Mr. Workman (Editorial: "Public forum," Sept. 5). Mr. O'Meilia may have the role to determine whether the topic of a speaker is permissible under open meeting rules. (Yet , from last Friday's newspaper article, it is not even clear that Mr. O'Meilia was correct in his ruling.)

Fallin's missed opportunity
Mary Fallin represents herself for re-election (or to the Senate) while failing to represent or care about the needs of the people of the state ("Gov. Mary Fallin: Lawsuit reform must be addressed now," Sept. 4). When has she done one thing to cover or propose an alternative to cover health care for close to 200,000 Oklahomans!?!

No tears
Good riddance ("Ohio man who held 3 women captive found dead," Sept. 4). The world just became a slightly better place...

Syria debated
Whatever happened to the good old days when we just secretly supplied weapons to both sides in a civil war ("Oklahoma delegates show little appetite for attack on Syria," Sept. 4)?

Oklahoma nursing home issues
The idea of nursing care for seniors is thoughtful and sound. The reality of the current situation is anything but. There are exceptions, but they are few. ("Oklahoma's F on nursing home care spurs rally, study at Capitol," Sept. 5).

Speak up
I'm surprised not one of our conservative friends has commented on this article ("Affordable Care Act insurance costs lower than expected, study finds," Sept. 6). Could it be that the results of lower premiums under "Obamacare" has them gun-shy? I doubt it. I'm certain some will come along soon to bash the (president of the United States).

Don't change OU pregame show
We are shocked at the band ("OU-West Virginia lookahead includes linebackers, bottled water and the Flip Wilson Show," Sept. 5). (We) knew about the controversy (concerning) the pregame, but even that was changed some, but you couldn't hear the band at all. All the brass was spread out all over the field, when they started "America the Beautiful" and we were supposed to sing along with it. No one could hear. We are in the north endzone, and we couldn't believe what we were seeing and NOT hearing! We need our pre-game tradition back!

All's well
When a sportswriter and readers are complaining about the band, I would assume the team is doing pretty darn good? ("OU-West Virginia lookahead includes linebackers, bottled water and the Flip Wilson Show," Sept. 5)

The incarceration rate in Oklahoma is among the highest in the nation with approximately 26,000 people behind bars at any given time.
The Nov. 28, 2008, Tulsa World published my Readers Forum piece, "Antietam," in which I reported on a visit my then-8-year-old grandson, Stevie, and I made to Antietam battlefield in rural Maryland.
