Seventeen children have developed rashes after playing in a Sapulpa splash pad over the Memorial Day weekend, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
The investigation is still ongoing but the rashes are believed to be caused by chemical exposure, said Laurence Burnsed, director of the Communicable Diseases Division of the Health Department.
The rashes can appear at multiple sites and last over several days. Other symptoms children have reported include redness, raised swollen areas and scabbing, he said.
No other pools or water features are being investigated, he said.
Officials with the City of Sapulpa did not return phone calls seeking comment late Tuesday.
