Richard Watt, a longtime Tulsa physician, and beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and colleague, died Sunday, September 8, 2013, at home in Tulsa. He was 77. He was born on June 25, 1936 in New York City to Richard and May (Brill) Watt, and was reared in Los Angeles, California. He attended Loyola University of Los Angeles and received his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in 1961. Dr. Watt served as a Medical Officer in the United States Navy from 1962-1964 and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. Following his residency in internal medicine and postdoctoral fellowships in oncology, he entered private practice in Tulsa. He was Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. During his fiftyyear medical career, he served on the staffs of Saint Francis Hospital, St. John Medical Center and the Utica Park Clinic. He was very much appreciated by his patients and known for his compassion, his vast knowledge, and his ethics. Following his career in private practice, Dr. Watt served as a National Medical Director for Transplantation for MetLife, UnitedHealth Group, and later as a consultant for Life Trac. He was a de- voted Roman Catholic and an active member of the Church of the Resurrection, and had cared for many of the clergy. He exhibited a lifelong love of learning and was a voracious reader. He was particularly devoted to addressing issues of social justice through volunteerism and advocacy, and engaged others on these topics through discourse and vigorous debate. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jo Edith Watt of Tulsa; daughter, Adrienne Watt of Tulsa; and son, Trevor Watt, daughter-in-law, Teri Kil and grandsons, Owen Richard Watt and Nolan Edward Watt of Hillsborough, California. The family would like to thank InFinity Care of Tulsa Hospice for their dedication to Dr. Watt’s care in his final months. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 16, at the Church of the Resurrection, 4804 South Fulton Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
