OU Board of Regents to meet Wednesday

The Regents will consider architectural firms to provide construction of storm-hardened shelters in the housing area on the Norman campus.

BARTLESVILLE - Voters in Bartlesville will decide Tuesday whether to extend a half-cent sales tax for capital improvement projects, including street construction, park development and new equipment.

The city of Bartlesville has funded $32 million in projects since the tax went into effect in 1999, with 41 percent of the money going for street construction and repairs, 18 percent for drainage, 12 percent for parks, 8 percent for water projects, 7 percent for facilities and 1 percent for downtown. If voters approve the proposal, the tax will be extended for seven years.

City officials estimate $21.1 million would be generated by the tax. Priority projects included in the election proposal are the expansion of Johnstone Park skate park, construction of new baseball fields and replacement of the Bartlesville Community Center's roof.

Additional funding would go for street maintenance, the extension of Pathfinder Parkway, storm drainage improvements and the purchase of police cars, dump trucks and generators.
