A minor acid leak from a railroad tank car temporarily closed a busy Sand Springs street early Friday.

About 8:40 a.m. Sand Springs firefighters were called to a railroad crossing near Morrow Road and Main Street after a rail operator found acid leaking from a parked tank car, Fire Chief Mike Wood said.

Wood said hot temperatures played a role in the hydrochloric acid leaking from the tank.

Firefighters were able to close the valve and stop the minor leak, he said.

No injuries were reported, Wood said. No surrounding businesses or neighborhoods were evacuated.

Morrow Road was closed for more than an hour while crews worked the scene.
