A Sand Springs man was arrested Sunday afternoon in connection with Tulsa’s 41st homicide of the year.

Tulsa Police Homicide Sgt. Dave Walker said Ronnie Dean Haskins II, 40, was arrested about 5 p.m. at a trailer near 1600 S. 145th West Ave. in Sand Springs. Haskins is accused of killing Zachary Montgomery, 24, about 11 p.m. Saturday.

Montgomery on Saturday night was found dead inside a residence at 6105 W. Eighth St., in Tulsa, having suffered multiple wounds.

Police have not said what those wounds were, nor have they given a motive for the slaying. Walker said the state Medical Examiner’s Office would determine the cause and manner of death.

Walker said police determined that a possible suspect in the homicide had fled the residence in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am following the slaying, and authorities quickly concentrated on Haskins as the alleged prime suspect.

Surveillance maintained on several residences in Sand Springs led detectives and agents from the Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force to the trailer where Haskins was found.

The Pontiac was found by Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers near Inola, Walker said. Details of how Haskins may have gone from Inola to Sand Springs were not available.

Haskins was being held without bond on a first-degree murder complaint.

Haskins’ Oklahoma Department of Corrections information lists convictions stretching back to 1992, for unlawful delivery of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of stolen vehicle, attempted larceny of an automobile, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and escape from confinement.
