A Sand Springs man was charged Thursday with robbing a Tulsa restaurant last week.

Justin Tyler Jones, 26, is charged in Tulsa County District Court with armed robbery in connection with the heist at the Chimi’s Mexican Food restaurant at 5320 S. Harvard Ave.

A man entered the restaurant shortly before 4 p.m. July 25 with what appeared to be a handgun and demanded that an employee give him cash, Jones’ arrest report says.

The robber got into a silver Honda and drove north on Harvard, according to the document. A witness saw the car’s tag number, and police traced the vehicle to Jones, the arrest report says.

Officers arrested Jones in Sand Springs on July 26. After being read his Miranda rights, Jones confessed to committing the robbery, saying “he was behind on a car payment, needed money, and left his house on (July 25) with a backpack of robbery supplies,” police wrote in the document.

Jones, who was also charged Thursday with possession of a firearm despite a felony record, was still in the Tulsa Jail on Thursday night.
