Make sure you get a good night's rest tonight: A recent study on the benefits of sleep says your skin will thank you for it.

Not only has chronic sleeplessness been linked to such health conditions as diabetes, obesity, cancer and immune deficiencies, but also some scientists now say sleep deprivation has an effect on the quality of your skin.

The study, which was commissioned by Estée Lauder and conducted by physician-scientists at University Hospitals (UH) Case Medical Center, assessed the appearance of women between the ages of 30 and 49 by studying their skin's signs of aging - uneven pigmentation, fine wrink ling and a lack of elasticity - and also took note of how the participants rated their own attractiveness.

Those who reported poor sleep had skin showing increased signs of aging that healed slowly. These participants also rated their attractiveness lower than those who reported getting a regular good night's rest. Most medical experts recommend adults get between seven and eight hours of sleep each night, The Huffington Post reports.

"Insufficient sleep has become a worldwide epidemic," lead researcher Dr. Elma Baron said in a press release.
