Quarterbacks of the decades

1970s Jeb Blount

Blount was a 54 percent passer during an era when 54 percent was considered very efficient. In 1976, he was a second-round draft choice of the Oakland Raiders.

1980s T.J. Rubley

In Hurricane history, no one had more pass attempts than Rubley's 1,336 in 1987-91. He ranks third on TU's career chart for passing yards (9,324). His son Ryan is a Hurricane freshman QB.

1990s Gus Frerotte

Ball security was an issue as Frerotte completed his career with more interceptions (38) than TD passes (32), but he passed for nearly 2,900 yards in 1993. He graduated to a 15-season career in the NFL.

2000s Paul Smith

A tremendous college quarterback, Smith led the Hurricane to the 2005 Conference USA title. With 10,936 yards, he is the most prolific passer in program history.

2010-present G.J. KINNE

Texas transfer was a three-year starter for the Hurricane. Finished career with 9,472 yards and 81 TDs — both second (to Paul Smith) on TU’s all-time list. Led TU to a 10- win season and a bowl win in 2010. Signed with Philadelphia Eagles in March.
