A Tulsa teenager was jailed Friday evening in the wake of a police chase that led to the temporary closure of the westbound lanes of 41st Street.

Luis Fernando Chairez, 18, was booked into the Tulsa Jail on a variety of complaints, including hit and run, eluding, failure to signal a left turn, failure to possess a driver's license or insurance verification, and possession of a firearm while committing a felony.

Officers in the area of 47th Street and Darlington Avenue saw a hand-to-hand drug transaction and pursued a gold Cadillac Deville as it traveled toward Yale Avenue, Officer Kevin Warne said.

Reaching a speed of 65 mph in a 40 mph zone, the car turned west onto 41st Street and sideswiped another vehicle before continuing toward New Haven, where it struck a black Ford Mustang in front of Patrick Henry Elementary School, police said.

Chairez's arrest report says he was the driver of the vehicle and possessed a handgun. Two passengers, whose names are redacted from the report, possessed marijuana, the document says.

They also were taken into custody.

All three attempted to flee from police and failed to follow officers' commands, the report alleges.
