A former blackjack dealer at a local casino pleaded guilty Wednesday in a federal embezzlement case that a prosecutor said could require as much as $85,000 in restitution to the establishment.
Misty Lynn White, 28, of Sapulpa admitted that she committed the crime from January until Feb. 16 while employed at the Osage Casino in Tulsa.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shannon Cozzoni said White would help a player — who has yet to be charged — gain an unfair advantage by surreptitiously revealing her dealer hole cards to the man. Federal Public Defender Julia O’Connell said White received a minimal amount of money for her role.
Cozzoni said it is unclear how many times White and the man participated in rigged blackjack games before they were detected through the casino’s video surveillance. White was then fired.
She said $5,600 was involved on one day, but she noted that the investigation continues into the total amount embezzled. Cozzoni told U.S. District Judge John Dowdell on Wednesday that the casino might be due as much as $85,000 in restitution, although the defense did not agree to that amount.
White could face as much as 20 years in prison, although federal sentencing guidelines likely will call for her to serve no more than 18 months in custody.
White will await her Dec. 10 sentencing date while free on bond.
