My brother and I laid on the shag carpet of our living room in our diapers, lights out as the Steve Miller Band showed us the universe. From there, I saw the stars of country, blues, folk, pop, hip hop and rock. The beats, from my folks influence resonating in the hills of Arkansas, is ingrained with no exorcism powerful enough to rid my mind of music’s wide appeal. So I tried. I went to the University of Oklahoma where I heard music I didn’t know was possible. Then I went to Kansas for some reason and heard music that no one could explain. I came back to Oklahoma, and after hearing the gunshots and gushers of the crime and energy beat, found myself in music, where it started. I want to bring you not only Tulsa’s best music, but what’s off the beat. You can find music from Tulsa’s past, present and future here. Along with what connects me back to the rivers and hills of Green Country. Come back to Offbeat and you’ll hear what’s off your beat, but on your horizon.
