Tulsa's Tyler Kuhn (bottom) slides into second base under Midland's Darwin Perez during a baseball game at OneOK Field on Wednesday. A Canon 1DX camera captured about 20 photos of the play.
I put my new Canon 1DX through its paces last night at a Drillers game. Along with outstanding low-light performance, the thing is tack-sharp and FAST.
It shoots 12 frames per second. That's 12 individual photos in the blink of an eye. And you can push it even faster by tweaking some settings.
The speed was evident in this sequence from a play at second base.
With the Drillers' Tyler Kuhn on first base, I prefocused on second to catch the action as he advanced. Sure enough, Kuhn headed for second, but was way behind the throw to Midland's Darwin Perez.
It looked like an easy out, but Perez dropped the ball and Kuhn slid in safely. Meanwhile, my finger was on the trigger, taking about 20 pictures of the play.
Looking at the slideshow below, you can almost see the point where Perez realizes he isn't holding the ball anymore. Isn't technology great?
