Don't think. Just shoot.

I've written in this space before about my new "old love" of shooting film with cheap plastic cameras - known as toy cameras in the photo world.

I recently got a roll of film processed and scanned to a CD. As I looked through the photos, I started seeing a theme emerge - one I didn't notice while I was shooting. This is the beauty of shooting this way.

Newspaper photographers have to constantly think while they're shooting. But some of the best photos I have ever taken were ones I shot two decades ago. Why? I wasn't thinking; just reacting. These cameras allow me to do that all over again. Quit thinking and just shoot.
