Go directly to jail

Today started with a trip to prison.

Several inmates from the Conner Correctional Center in Hominy were recognized for their work in the Second Chance program. It's an educational offering that teaches inmates in hopes of reintegrating them into society upon release.

Once I got past the razor wire and security checkpoints, the ceremony was pretty typical. There were caps, gowns, even cookies and punch. At first glance you wouldn't know you were in prison.

What I needed to convey, though, was that these guys were locked up. Little details like the "corrections" stenciling on their clothes helped illustrate the idea.

You can read more about the program in Friday's Tulsa World.
