Mister, you lost a ball

There was a wide-open gate two feet away as Aaron Vaughn, 7, hopped a fence into his grand- parents’ backyard after a golfer hit a tee shot right into their house at Bailey Ranch Golf Club. Aaron was excited to add the ball to his collection in his Radio Flyer wag- on. He was selling the balls from the yard back to golfers — possibly some of the same golfers who lost them in the yard in the first place.

Aaron has made about $60 selling the balls this summer. He sells them when he visits his grandpar- ents who have a home right on the 7th fairway. The price varies, but on this day it was three balls for $1. As the golfer who hit the ball into the backyard made his way up the 7th fairway, Aaron shouted, “Mister, you lost a ball.” A more shrewd business- person would then try to sell the ball back to the golfer. Not Aaron. He threw the ball back to him with a huge smile. The golfer played the ball from where it landed.
