The grime and the beauty of a city are magnified from a few stories up.
Something about being up high - atop downtown Tulsa's parking garages, in this case - brings out the visual appeal of everyday things. An ordinary neon light bathes buildings in color. Cracks in the sidewalk turn into a roadmap.
From a photography standpoint, the challenge is to keep things simple.
Big views come with lots of visual clutter. The lampposts and parking meters that go unnoticed on the ground stand out from up high. So I relied on zoom lenses to get past those distractions.
I climbed a fair amount of stairs, too. Often the difference between a good photo and a bad one was simply walking to the next floor.
