I worked Easter Sunday. My assignments took me to two very different parks in very different parts of the city. What I found, at first seemed to be very different scenes at Woodward Park and Mohawk Park.

At Woodward Park my assignment was to photograph people shooting Easter portraits dressed in their finest. At Mohawk Park I was to photograph a subject at the Mary K. Oxley Nature Center for a story on hiking. As I made my way through Mohawk Park, I could not believe how crowded it was. Picnics everywhere with mostly Hispanic families celebrating the holiday.  It looked like a festival. I was busy and needed to meet my subject so I didn't stop and take photos.  As I left I was also in a hurry, and I didn't think I had time to stop. I tried to ignore the scenery and move on to my next assignment. Then I saw Tamborazo Santa Cruz De Tulsa playing. I rolled down my window and listened to the music. I couldn't ignore the scenery anymore. I had to stop and shoot photos.

The more I think about how different the scenes were, the more I see the similarities. Families celebrating a holiday together; tradition. I am trying to figure out how to write about this for our Sunday Seen column. As a photojournalist, I usually think photos  don't need a lot of words. I think this may be one of the rare times that this is actually true.
