I have now been in America for over 13 years, but still managed to keep most of my englishness, which surprises even myself.
Others notice it a lot when talking about food, like for instance with words like tomato, where I'm from in England most of us pronounce it without the second 't', like a lot of words with a t in the middle, water being another example.
An opposite example of the way we say words with Ts in it is filet, over here the t is silent, but in England, at least where I'm from (accents vary all over England just like here), we say filet with the t, as anyone who watches Gordon Ramsey will most likely notice.
Also when saying the word herb, we say it with the 'H', over here it's pronounced 'erb', and another great example is basil, over here people say 'bay-zil', over there, most of us say 'bah-zil'.
It sure makes for a good chuckle from most people I speak too, and yes my accent is real!!!
